Caracas is not a good place for a movie lover like me. In the states I always go to the movies or rent the new movies when they come out. But here there is a very small amount of movies in theatres or that you can buy. And it’s not just the movies it’s the commercials. I don’t see any commercials for movies on TV so I have no idea what’s playing right now. I could be missing the best movie of the year and not even know it’s out. That’s why when I go back to the states my family and I always rent a ton of movies so we can get caught up on what we missed. It’s funny when I walk through a blockbuster and all of the movies are new to me. You think you could never get caught up but it actually only takes a couple of weeks before you know all of the movies in theatres and the ones that are coming soon. Then all of that knowledge gets erased when I go back to Caracas. I go back to not knowing what is in theatres. I always look forward to seeing the new action and comedy’s when I go back to the states.

The Way It's Supposed To Taste
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is definitely one of my favorite holidays of the year. The combination of food family, friends, and football is unbeatable. The problem is that having a top notch thanksgiving in Venezuela Is almost impossible. Typically a family will throw a thanksgiving party but the food is just not up to par. The turkey is a little dry, the stuffing is too creamy, the gravy is too sweet, or the mashed potatoes aren’t mashed enough. There’s a whole score of things that could go wrong. Luckily this thanksgiving I was lucky enough to be able to have a home a cooked thanksgiving meal just the way it is supposed to taste. Me and my family flew out of Caracas on Wednesday after school to my grandparents’ house in Fort Myers Florida. A lot of my family was already there waiting for us. It had been a while since I had seen them so it was a very fun trip. I was only there for a couple of days but it was extremely nice to have a break from school (which is getting increasingly harder). When the time came to board our flight back I was sad that my mini vacation was over and I definitely wasn’t looking forward to the makeup homework I had to do.

Catfish
It’s funny how one random event, or act can lead to another random thing that leads to something really cool. This happened the other day to me. I was staying at my friend Cam’s house and we were looking through facebook when we saw video about a catfish. After the video my friend told me to Google catfish and the top result was a trailer for a movie. We were confused why a movie trailer had popped up so we clicked on it and watched it. The trailer showed a movie about a man having a long distance relationship with a woman he never met. The trailer implies that something isn’t right with this person and that the truth is shocking. We both thought it looked really good so we went to a website where you can watch movies online (surfthechannel.com) and watched the whole hour and a half movie. As it turns out the movie was very good. I won’t give away the end but it turns out he wasn’t having a relationship with the women he thought. The movie is very good and I suggest you watch it. After me and Cam finished the movie we both realized we just watched a whole movie because of one random video on Facebook. But I’m glad we were led to that movie because it was very interesting. If you stumble upon this blog entry you should definitely check out CATFISH.

Student Council Elections
High school student president elections are something that most teachers would describe as sick, a failure of democracy, or just plain immaturity. They say this because the person who gets elected is the person who gives the most candy and has the funniest speech. The winner is most definitely not the person who boasts the most experience, the best qualities, or promises to improve the community. The winner of the election is the one who passes out the most candy has the funniest speech and is most liked. It’s really quite a bit like a real presidential election. In our school only seniors can run for president and senses the ninth graders are new were there swing votes. Unlike a real election the way to win our votes is to hand out candy. Most candy is directed towards us because they know if they give us enough candy we will vote for them. The next` key part is the speech. What we are looking for is a funny entertaining speech. Not a five minute lecture on how this person might really help the ECA community. We want comedy and false promises of soda machines. We want over the top and ridiculous. Almost none of the tactics employed by hot shot politicians can be found in a student council election.
The Faithful Spy
The Faithful Spy by Alex Berenson is a very good spy novel. I love to read spy novels they are the most interesting and exciting. This book was especially intense. The book is about a CIA agent named John Wells. He went undercover into Al Qaeda. They believe him to be a dedicated terrorist. John Wells realized that something big was going to happen but he didn’t say anything. That big something was 9/11. Shortly after the invasion John is sent on to United States to wait for further orders. He goes to the states as told but the CIA detains him because they believe he has been turned. He has to break out of custody which means he’s on his own. When he gets his orders from Al Qaeda he has stop a deadly biological attack without any help from any kind of law enforcement. I really liked this book. Every second of it is entertaining and heart-pounding. Once you pick it up you can’t put it down. This is the first book in a series Alex Berenson has created about John Wells. I know that the others will be just as good if not better. I definitely recommend this book and the author.
Addicting TV Shows
I have recently become addicted to addicting TV shows. It all started when my dada bought the first season of 24 on DVD. Shows like 24 and Lost always have a continuous plot where shows like Law &Order or CSI have a different plot and characters in each one. That is what makes TV shows addicting. When you just have to watch the next episode to see what happens. Anyway, when my sister, dad, and me watched the first one we ended up watching four more. From that moment on I was hooked. We watched all 7 seasons that were on DVD until we caught up with the show. That was the hardest transition. We were used to watching the episodes without commercials and one after the other but now we could only watch one a week with commercials. That was the last season of 24 so for the time being io was off TV shows. It wasn’t long before me and my sister discovered Prison Break. It was only a few months until we finished all four seasons. The next show ii have been watching on my own. Lost is an incredibly addicting incredible show. I’m on the third season and it won’t be long till I have finished all six seasons. After that who knows what I will watch but I’m sure I’ll find something, eventually.
Specials Of The Week
One of my favorite things in school is the specials meals. Not necessarily because the food is incredible (sometimes it is sometimes it isn’t). It’s because of the good feeling you get when you think about it. When I’m sitting in a boring class it’s nice to remember that it’s hamburger day and get that sudden rush of happiness. It’s funny how something so little can change your mood. Now let me explain the different specials. Every Wednesday the cafeteria makes their own Sushi. The sushi itself is not the best Sushi you will eat but it’s good for the price. Every other Thursday is hamburger day. They serve hamburgers and cheeseburgers and it comes with fries. The school burgers are very hit or miss some people love them some hate them. I personally like them. For some reason almost all of the hamburger patties in Caracas are seasoned. A lot of people don’t like this style of patty but I think there tasty. This is the day that it’s most important to guard you plate if you turn around even for a second all of your fries could be gone. Every other Tuesday (hamburger and pizza alternate weeks) is pizza day. I do not like the pizza. The sauce is bad quality, the cheese is cheap, and for some reason the pizza is a lot sweeter than it should be. I like almost all of the other meals but pizza is my least favorite by far(Actually the Lebanese plate is my least favorite. They only served it once and then for some mysterious reason it was served again?). Those are the special food plates I look forward to in the week.
